On movies: a flop this weekend and a prediction

It was announced last evening that the movie "New Year's Eve," "Leads Worst Box Office Weekend Since 2008." You know what? It LOOKED bad. Yikes. This didn't look like a second "Love, Actually" by a long shot. It was as though they threw every cliche' and every actor at it they could--including Robert DeNiro--in the hopes and assumption it would do well. It looked bad and as it turns out, people don't want to see it. Sorry, Ashton (Kutchner). (not). (See link below for story). That said, while we're discussing holiday movies, I would be willing to bet (nearly) that this new movie coming out, "TinTin", directed by George Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson, based on the nearly ancient French comic, at least doesn't do as well as expected, if even that well. Sure, it's animation and yes, it's Spielberg and they're advertising it--and big--that it's a "the perfect cross between Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones" but heads up--Americans don't really know this TinTin and it's WAY too French for the average Joe on the street. There is also a ton of competition in films, of course, for the holiday season. It may work, heaven knows. They have the time off people have to see movies and, of course, Spielberg's name and the advertising they're doing on it but I just don't think it'll do what they'll project. We'll see, as always. I just don't think it's going to happen for them. Link: http://movies.yahoo.com/news/years-eve-leads-worst-box-office-weekend-since-165449443.html
